Hello! Thanks for stopping by. If you are reading this you are either my professor or my mother, so we are off to a great start here.
I suppose I should start out this blog by telling you a little about myself and the direction I am hoping this blog will go, though it will end up being about whatever I feel like writing about.
My freshman year of college, I had a tough time adjusting. I drove my Prius into conservative Oklahoma without a clue of what I was getting myself into. I had a hard time making friends because, well, to be honest, because I'm unfriendly. I didn't know where I was going to fit in in college and I was making no effort to figure it out.
I let myself fall further into the depths of my own mind. One day, I spontaneously made an account on Tumblr. For a while, I was writing with absolutely no followers, which I sort of liked. I realized that I could write comedy. I realized that I could write about myself and soon writing about myself would teach me about myself.
I got a lot of followers and ended up making a bunch of online friends. I decided writing was awesome and all of the math and econ classes I was taking for my business major were not so awesome. It took a long time for me to tell my parents I wanted to change my major because they seemed to always have had a specific plan for me. Everyone in my family is an engineer. Not much room in a family like that for a writer, or so I thought. It turns out I'm a silly goose and my parents were totally supportive, especially since I was already being published by a HelloGiggles and working for the school newspaper.
I'm off topic. This is a trend you will get used to if you continue to read this blog. And you will continue reading it because you are either grading me or you birthed me (hi mom!). I meant to discuss what I want to talk about on this blog.
I LOVE pop culture. I get told frequently that I'm not the type to love pop culture. I don't even know what that means. I don't describe myself as any "type" of person because I'm actually like 15 different people. If you asked my friends, they'd say I'm "indie" or "unique" which I may be. But I don't think that means I can't like certain things. I'm not about that life. Anyways, I love pop culture and I don't give a fuck if that doesn't fit whatever type of person people think I am.
I love pop culture for a lot of reasons. I like that celebrities take themselves seriously. Reality stars in particular lead absurd lives. AND THEY TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. Kim Kardashian thinks of herself as a BUSINESS WOMAN. That's real life.
I like to watch these celebrities living their absurd lives and taking themselves seriously and having everyone else take them so seriously. I love that. I love looking in on such an interesting world. As an absurd person myself, Iove the talking about other absurd people.
So that is what this blog will be about. I will attempt to provide some new commentary on the ridiculous topics that people cannot shut up about. When Miley Cyrus twerks on the Lincoln Memorial, I'll write about it. When Kristen Stewart scowls at a newborn baby, I'll be writing about it. When One Direction causes preteen girls to have one erections, I'll write about it. Too far. I know.
So, welcome. Welcome to my pop-culture blog. All of the other posts will be better than this. I had a few glasses of wine.
